Readcube scores highly with its search capabilities, fetching a variety of sources but, unfortunately, without the ability to sort by type directly in the results. However, it compensates with filters for relevance, citation count, and publication year, which helps narrow down the choice and simplify the research process. Citing directly on the platform is also quite convenient, but we had a hard time locating the feature on the platform. It’s well hidden in the toolbar, but we believe that access to such an important part of research work as citations should always be easily accessible. The platform’s integration of a browser extension, Papers Web Importer, for importing references from anywhere on the web and accessing full texts or abstracts directly from large scholarly resources is particularly noteworthy. This feature, coupled with the strategic placement of the most relevant search results at the top, makes Readcube a powerful tool for academic research.

Signing up was a whole adventure on its own, asking for a bunch of personal and school info. Once inside, the interface presented a peculiar challenge: every mouse click opened a new, tall, and narrow card, cluttering our view with a cascade of windows that felt more like a magic trick gone awry than an efficient way to present information. This design choice is definitely unique and may be quite interesting, but it left us longing for simplicity and clarity.

Despite these issues, Research Rabbit does offer some carrots worth nibbling on, such as the ability to connect to Zotero for reference management and some level of search functionality and filtering options which, to be honest with you, in our case were malfunctioning.
